About Stephanie Irlbacher-Fox, BA, MA, PhD

Born in Scarborough, Ontario, Stephanie’s family moved to Inuvik when she was in primary school; she graduated from high school in Inuvik in 1989, going on to earn a Bachelors and Masters degrees in political science from the University of Alberta.

Her Cambridge University PhD thesis, based on her experience and research on self government negotiations in the NWT, was published as an academic book. She has written and spoken extensively on Indigenous governance, modern treaties, northern public policy and organizational development.

Stephanie established Fox Consulting in 2001 during her PhD studies. She and her spouse chose to remain in the NWT, re-locating to Yellowknife from Inuvik. Prioritizing parenting their two boys, Stephanie worked from home as a consultant to NWT Indigenous governments and pursued independent academic research. Over the last thirty years she has been active locally in Yellowknife as a volunteer, and has served at the local, territorial, and national levels on a variety of boards and committees.
